Reflection on Social Media Case 9: Ponderize

I want to say that the thought behind making these t-shirts was with good intentions. However, it is a bit weird to me that right after the talk it was his son that had made the website to sell the t-shirts. It is common after general conference talks for Mormons to make memes or different graphics with their favorite quotes from the talks. These kind of graphics and pictures put out on the internet have the best intentions and are just trying to be cute. However, the vibe that selling t-shirts based off of your dad’s church talk sounds like it has bad intentions. It was good that they came out with a public apology but the situation is still shady. This article puts an interesting twist on the story. It says that BYU bookstore ordered t-shirts with the logo “ponderize” on them a couple days after the general conference talk had been given. They said that even though their had been controversy over the selling of the t-shirts online they said that their had been

Reflection on Social Media Case 8: Pastor's 10% to God

To start off this was an interesting case study. It makes me angry for the server and really all servers that are constantly being treated like tips are optional. I understand if they work somewhere that pays them an hourly wage of more than $2 an hour tips aren’t the most important thing but for most servers that isn’t the case. I can understand why the servers friend would post the receipt on the internet and I don’t think she deserved to be fired for it. Yes, it was a violation of the pastor’s privacy but also I don’t blame her for posting it. I think she had everyone right to post that because she was angry and wanted to see how ignorant people can be but I do think she should’ve blurred out the name or crossed it out so everyone on the internet couldn’t see who she was talking about. So no, I don’t think she should have been fired but yes there should have been consequences This article is talking about how a few years ago in Utah a bill got defeated that would

Reflection on Social Media Case 7: Anthony Weiner’s Post

This case study goes to show what can happen you try to hide from things that you’ve done. Something I related this back to that we’ve talked about in class before is how whenever you put something onto the internet you can’t take it off. You might think it is taken down if you delete it but when in reality it can still be found. Anthony Weiner made a bad decision and then he tried to lie about it and cover up what he had done. When you make a mistake on the internet specifically it can be nearly impossible to cover it up. Celebrities and people in the spotlight need to be even more cautious about what they post on the internet. When someone who has a large following posts something and then deletes it chances are someone if not multiple people have taken a screenshot of what they posted and can now share it with the rest of the world. This article says that Anthony accidently tweeted out the photo of him because of one typo that he made. You would think if you
