Reflection on Social Media Case 7: Anthony Weiner’s Post
This case study goes to show what can happen you try to hide
from things that you’ve done. Something I related this back to that we’ve
talked about in class before is how whenever you put something onto the
internet you can’t take it off. You might think it is taken down if you delete
it but when in reality it can still be found. Anthony Weiner made a bad
decision and then he tried to lie about it and cover up what he had done. When
you make a mistake on the internet specifically it can be nearly impossible to
cover it up. Celebrities and people in the spotlight need to be even more
cautious about what they post on the internet. When someone who has a large
following posts something and then deletes it chances are someone if not
multiple people have taken a screenshot of what they posted and can now share
it with the rest of the world.
This
article says that Anthony accidently tweeted out the photo of him because of
one typo that he made. You would think if you were posting a risqué photo you
would make sure that you were absolutely sure of who you were sending it to. He
isn’t the first or only one that has made a mistake and sent out information to
the wrong person. However, when this does happen something Anthony didn’t do
right away is own up to his mistake. In this
article it talks about how at first Anthony was claiming that a hacker posted
that photo from his twitter account. It then goes into Anthony admitting what
he had done and apologizing for the mistake that he made. In this day and age
and with the technology that we have available you can claim that you didn’t do
it but anything can be traced on the internet and then you’ll have to go back
and explain why you made and the mistake and then lied about it. Lesson learned
from this case study; be careful about what you post and if you do make a
mistake own up to it.
Great job Emma, your links provided great insight into Anthony's life and his mistakes that landed him in prison.
ReplyDeleteNice work, Emma. I will keep my comments brief to avoid making any unintentional jokes!
