Reflection on Social Media Case 10: Miracle Mattress Twin Tower Sale

Yikes! My first thought when I see commercials like this is how did no one involved think this was a bad idea? There wasn’t one person who looked at this commercial and thought this could be offensive? The company knew it was bad and they decided to close their store afterwards so I’m wondering who approved this commercial in the first place. That could be one of the issues with some American Dream companies. They don’t have the chain of command for a message to go through to get approved. I don’t think this commercial could be produced in a none offense way but it also doesn’t help with the tone and the way they produced this message. This article was interesting to me because it says that Cherise Bonanno says “she didn’t realize the 20 second ad would cause the controversy it has”. However, then right after she says “It was stupid, it was a stupid idea that we sent out and we apologize for our stupidity and we really hope that you forgive us for what we have done”...

Reflection on Social Media Case 9: Ponderize

I want to say that the thought behind making these t-shirts was with good intentions. However, it is a bit weird to me that right after the talk it was his son that had made the website to sell the t-shirts. It is common after general conference talks for Mormons to make memes or different graphics with their favorite quotes from the talks. These kind of graphics and pictures put out on the internet have the best intentions and are just trying to be cute. However, the vibe that selling t-shirts based off of your dad’s church talk sounds like it has bad intentions. It was good that they came out with a public apology but the situation is still shady. This article puts an interesting twist on the story. It says that BYU bookstore ordered t-shirts with the logo “ponderize” on them a couple days after the general conference talk had been given. They said that even though their had been controversy over the selling of the t-shirts online they said that their had been...

Reflection on Social Media Case 8: Pastor's 10% to God

To start off this was an interesting case study. It makes me angry for the server and really all servers that are constantly being treated like tips are optional. I understand if they work somewhere that pays them an hourly wage of more than $2 an hour tips aren’t the most important thing but for most servers that isn’t the case. I can understand why the servers friend would post the receipt on the internet and I don’t think she deserved to be fired for it. Yes, it was a violation of the pastor’s privacy but also I don’t blame her for posting it. I think she had everyone right to post that because she was angry and wanted to see how ignorant people can be but I do think she should’ve blurred out the name or crossed it out so everyone on the internet couldn’t see who she was talking about. So no, I don’t think she should have been fired but yes there should have been consequences This article is talking about how a few years ago in Utah a bill got defeated that would...
