The technology that I decided to look into that I think will change social media in the future is augmented reality. Augmented reality allows you to see things and picture things without actually being there or having it in real life. The way that augmented reality will affect social media is apps using augmented reality to brings things even more to life than they already do. For example, I can see Snapchat or Instagram using this in their filters to take it one step further than it already is. Snapchat is already kind of doing this the dancing hot dog. This article talks about bringing augmented reality to life and how it could affect social media. An example of an app that has started using augmented reality is Pokémon Go. The dancing hot dog on Snapchat and Pokémon Go are the base of what the possibilities with augmented reality are. Augmented reality could change the way that we use social media.

One way I could see augmented reality making quite a big change in social media is the way that businesses use it. Businesses could use augmented reality to create a vision of what you could look like or how your life could be if you were engaging in their business’s. Business’s could use augmented reality through social media to intrigue their customers of look how your life could be with our product.

This is a really good article talking about Apple’s big plans with augmented reality. Apple CEO Tim Cook talks about how this kind of technology that came out with the iPhone 10 will be world changing. Apple’s new ARKit uses the iPhone to do the first step of augmented reality which is examining, mapping, and understanding the real world. Apple’s ARKit sets up the highly detailed surroundings for the developers to then put virtual objects on. One way that the ARKit is being used is with IKEA’s new app. This app allows people to stand in their living room and look at a virtual replica of the sofa that they want to buy. One thing Apple talked about in their keynote when coming out with the new iPhone is how they can see this augmented reality being used to create viral videos. This links back to how augmented reality could be used to change social media. Augmented reality will take social media that one step further in allowing people to create content that they never could have made before.
